Now Hiring: Pedagogista (Teacher Supervisor)

IMG_0007Preschool of the Arts, an accredited early childhood program located on the west side of Madison, Wisconsin, is currently seeking two pedagogistas to begin in late August 2018. These are new leadership positions that involve a high level of expertise in early childhood education and teacher supervision. Preschool of the Arts has been a vibrant and creative presence in the Madison community for almost 50 years. In January of 2019, Preschool of the Arts will be the lead host of the acclaimed international exhibit from Reggio Emilia, Italy titled “The Wonder of Learning.”

Job description:
In collaboration with the executive director and the leadership team, the pedagogistas are responsible for leading curriculum development and supervising teachers. Shared responsibilities include leading parent engagement programming and professional development initiatives. Pedagogistas also play a leadership role in monitoring and documenting program quality relevant to licensing and accreditation. There are two full-time pedagogista roles. The morning pedagogista works 7:30-3:30 and supervises a cohort of co-teachers. The afternoon pedagogista works 10:00-6:00 and supervises a cohort of afternoon teachers. The morning pedagogista is responsible for routine tasks related to the opening of the school each day. The afternoon pedagogista is responsible for routine tasks related to the closing of the school each day.

Preferred qualifications:
• Education and/or experience equivalent to a degree in early childhood education, child development, or related field.
• A minimum of 3 years professional experience in an early childhood setting.
• Demonstrated ability to implement relationship-based reflective supervision.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of child development.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of Reggio Emilia-inspired practices.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to the individual and group needs of children, especially children with special needs.
• Demonstrated knowledge and appreciation of the arts and a commitment to the
school’s philosophy of integrated arts programming.
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a diverse community.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
