"I like my Copper Room. We have a lot of animals, and my friends are there. We do fun things like play outside or go to art class with Amy. At the end of the day, I say goodbye to my friends."
– Sean, age 3

Preschool of the Arts tries to meet every child’s needs. We have single age, mixed age, looping and Spanish classrooms. Please contact the director of the school at 233-1707 to discuss which option best suits your child’s needs.  Placement is based on your child’s age as of September 1st .

Single-Age Classrooms

Parents can choose to place their children into classrooms where all the children share a common age.  Single-age classrooms provide developmentally consistent opportunities for learning and students tend to progress through projects at the same rate.  These classrooms are available for children 18-24 months, 2, 3 or 4 years old.

Mixed-Age Classrooms

Parents can also choose to place their children into mixed-age classrooms.  These classrooms provide opportunities for the younger children to reach higher levels of learning sooner.  The older children reinforce their learning through teaching the younger ones while also learning empathy.  These classrooms are available to 3 and 4 year olds.

Looping Classrooms

The Reggio philosophy stresses that education is based on relationships.  PSA interprets this ideal by offering single-age looping classrooms where students and teachers stay together over a period of years.  Mixed-age classrooms naturally loop each year as the younger students become the following years’ older ones.

Listed below is one progression of classrooms that PSA children may follow.

Rainbow to Snowflake to Blue

Yellow to Red to Green

Cloud to White to Gold

Silver to Orange to Sunshine or Copper

* Purple [Spanish] Room available for older 3’s and 4’s

Spanish Classroom

Led by bilingual co-teachers who are native Spanish speakers, children in the Spanish classroom enjoy the same rich Reggio-inspired curriculum as children in other classrooms while reaping the many benefits of early foreign language acquisition.  Children learn to understand and speak Spanish by hearing their teachers read stories, sing songs, and discuss such routine activities as eating lunch, going outside and washing hands in Spanish.  Children in the Spanish classroom partake fully in PSA's music and art programs. This is a mixed-age (three- and four-year-old) classroom.
"She continues to learn new things every day, but we are especially excited to see how interacting with the younger children has given her a unique opportunity to continually develop many of the social skills needed for kindergarten."
- Jeff, PSA parent
"My oldest daughter has been with the same teachers and kids for three years. Her academic progress couldn’t have occurred without the consistency and devotion of the teachers."
