Parents

Parents are an integral part of the learning community at Preschool of the Arts. As partners in the process, parents experience the curriculum not only through their children’s eyes, but as active contributors.

Parents participate in the PSA community in many ways. Parents and family members join their children for special field trips and events. They visit classrooms to exhibit specific talents or share beautiful aspects of their cultures. Other times, parents contribute learning materials, from library books on a specific topic, to exotic rocks, to model airplanes for the children to use for a period of time. They also contribute to their children's experience through such simple means as dropping in to share lunch or read a story.

The school encourages "big people" to engage with the learning process in a number of formal ways. Twice a year parents experience the art and music studios with their children through Studio Days. Back-to-School Nights provide the opportunity for parents to get to know each other and the teachers without their kids around. Art Night allows parents to come to the art studio and create artwork for their child. Parent-teacher conferences offer a time for parents to meet with teachers one-on-one to discuss their child's progress. Finally, each classroom has at least two Room Parents to help the teachers and plan for special events or parties.
